iTunes 8 excites me in untold ways September 10, 2008

Apple had a big day yesterday, releasing their thinnest iPod nano ever, and providing a cheaper version of the touch. But the biggest release, in my humble opinion, was the implementation of the new iTunes software, which contains some pretty damn cool things.

The Genius Feature

This new feature allows you to select a song from your library, and the sidebar at the left gives you recommendations based on what iTunes knows, as well as based on other users who have genius installed and what similarities their libraries to have. You can also take that song and have iTunes create a playlist from your library for you, giving you instant and immediate playlists. It’s still a bit new, so some of the decisions aren’t the smartest thing, but the genius needs to gain IQ points.

Grid View

Apple is all about eye candy, and this new grid view feature is nothing different. I still can’t decide if I like it or coverflow better.

New Visualizer

This is the first visualizer I can actually watch for a bit without getting bored. Although I’m worried that potheads will just get high and watch this all day.

All in all, good job Apple, now just make the thing run faster on my PC!

Oh, you told me the ways it excites you when you were drunk…with that in mind, I’m a little embarassed you’d make that a headline…

Keep that thing to yourself, or at least away from children.
