ACL Preview 118 – Foo Fighters August 9, 2008

We’ve made it to the end of the road. If you know me, you know I’m not fond of the Foo Fighters getting top billing, but there’s nothing that can be done to change that. FF are not bad by any means, and Dave Grohl is a cool guy, but the Foo’s music isn’t anything very groundbreaking. If he brings Jack Black onstage, I’ll forgive him. That being said, the tune below is probably my favorite Foo track.
And with that, we’ve finished our look at the upcoming ACL festival. I apparently did something wrong since there were supposed to be 130 bands on the bill, but we only have 118. What are ya gonna do? As for the future of Rob ‘N Roll, I’m not sure yet, as I’m still not quite in possession of good Internet, and in the upcoming semester I may be blogging for the Daily Texan. Tune in here for the news and rest assured that even if I move to the Texan to blog, you can still get your daily dose of Rob there.

Ladies and gentlemen, one of the greatest collaborations of all time. Robert Plant, legendary lead singer of Led Zeppelin, and Allison Krauss, firestorm bluegrass howler, together making beautiful country-tinged folk brilliance. SEE THEM.

A friggin’ genius musician here, but sadly one that I will have to miss due to Robert Plant & Allison Krauss playing at the same time. “Loser” is probably his most well-known song, but pretty much all of Beck’s arsenal is awesome.

A little Latin flavor at the top of ACL lineup. I think we had to translate this song for my Spanish class. Muy interesante, no?

Another classic rock god here, from CCR fame (NOT Cross Canadian Ragweed). There is definitely a plethora of better selections for Fogerty tunes, but come on, who doesn’t know (and love) “Centerfield”?

One of the innovators of alt-rock here ladies and gents. The leader of the Talking Heads, and one of the weirdest dudes alive. Should be an interesting set, to say the least.

Let’s bring a little prog to this festival, via Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. This is the better spin off of At the Drive-In (the other being Sparta), so get ready to rock out.

Conor Oberst is the lead singer of Bright Eyes, and although this incarnation of his musical expression still sounds a lot like Bright Eyes, despite the different name, it’s not too shabby.
